PASYDY FOLK DANCING GROUP
PASYDY Folk Dancing Group was established in 1984, and it consists
of amateur dancers - civil servants. The main objective of the group is
the preservation of the rich and deep rooted cultural heritage of
Cyprus.
A main feature of the group’s programme is the representation of the
traditional Cyprus wedding.
Customs and traditions during wedding, like the sewing of the wedding
mattress, the dressing of the bride, the shaving of the bridegroom and
the dance of the newly - weds while people pin banknotes on their
dresses are still taking place in some villages of Cyprus.
During the preparations musicians and singers, accompanied by violin
and “laguto” (lute), sing a variety of verses depending on the customs
performed, within the melody of the “wedding song”.
A variety of folk dances and love songs are performed, in every
traditional wedding. The costumes of the group are traditionally
authentic and hand - made.
PASYDY MIXED CHOIR
PASYDY mixed choir was established in February 1991, under the
guidance of Mrs Maria Savva, who is the permanent conductor since
then. It consists of amateur singers - civil servants, and it functions in
four voices.
The main objective of the choir is the preservation and projection of the
choir singing and the active participation of the group in the cultural
and social life of the island in general.
The choir is a creation of the love of civil servants for the choir music.
With much enthusiasm they make worthy their free time by
participating in the choir and contributing to the general cultural
development of the country.
In the repertoir there are classical, ecclesiastic hymns, negro-religious,
and Greek, Cypriot and foreign songs, specially amended for choir.
Their contribution is highly appreciated by the public and the various
cultural bearers.
PASYDY choir has participated in many cultural events and festivals in
Cyprus and abroad.
PASYDY FOOTBALL TEAM
Occassionally PASYDY forms a football team, consisting of talented
members, and organises meetings with other amateur teams, in order to
serve an objective, such as the collection of money for charitable
